How Can Staff Hold an Abusive Teaching Hospital Director Accountable?
My friend and I work as health practitioners in different departments of a federal teaching hospital. The director in my friend’s department allegedly insults and humiliates staff in front of patients and their relatives. This behaviour appears to violate the standards expected in the public service. Staff reportedly fear challenging him because he controls matters such as leave approval and postings. He is said to move staff between locations verbally and tell anyone unhappy with his decisions to resign. Several complaints have reportedly been made to the CMD, but there has been no visible action. What formal steps can staff take to hold a director accountable when complaints to hospital management have not worked? I would also like to hear from anyone who has faced a similar situation in a federal teaching hospital or another government institution, especially people with experience in HR, industrial relations, or public-sector administration.
