Acts 1:8: Is the Power of the Holy Spirit Mainly About Knowledge?
Acts 1:8 says believers will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them, so that they can be witnesses for Christ. I believe this power should not be understood only as a dramatic spiritual experience. It includes the ability, clarity and conviction to testify about Jesus accurately. First Corinthians 2:12 says we received the Spirit of God so that we may know the things freely given to us by God. In this sense, the Spirit gives revelation and understanding. A true witness needs facts: what they have seen, heard and understood. We cannot faithfully testify about Christ if we do not know Him. The apostles demonstrated this after the Holy Spirit came. Peter explained the Scriptures in Acts 2, Stephen recounted Israel's history in Acts 7, and Paul reasoned from the Scriptures in Acts 17. Their boldness was joined with knowledge. The Holy Spirit does more than create outward sensations. He makes believers knowledgeable, clear and able to declare Christ. Do not hoard knowledge; share it.
