Edo Government Demolishes Kidnap Syndicate Hideout in Ikpoba-Okha

Edo Government Demolishes Kidnap Syndicate Hideout in Ikpoba-Okha

The Edo State Government has razed a building in Obagie-N’Evbuosa Community, Ikpoba-Okha LGA, after intelligence linked it to a suspected kidnapping gang. Authorities say the property belonged to Solomon Johnson, a suspect in custody. Officials allege his group terrorised residents and once demanded an ₦11 million ransom before their arrest. This action formed part of Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists. The government warned that criminal hideouts will not be tolerated and plans to meet community heads to strengthen policing and intelligence gathering. During interrogation, Johnson confessed to selling stolen phones and laptops for up to ₦50,000 per deal. Investigations are ongoing as the administration renews its commitment to dismantle kidnapping networks and protect residents.

It's hard to see how knocking down a building tackles deeper security issues if the gang simply moves elsewhere or rebuilds.

Don't forget that swift action may deter other criminals, even if it feels like a temporary fix to some observers.

Local leaders should pair demolition with community watch programs and support for victims to prevent further abductions.
