Lagos School Proprietor Sentenced to Life for Abusing Six-Year-Old Pupil
Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Court in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced Benson Arinze, proprietor of Nurtured Brooks Nursery and Primary School in Ibeju-Lekki, to life imprisonment. He was found guilty of defilement after the court accepted evidence that he sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl who waited behind after class in 2022. The prosecution revealed that Arinze and a teacher, Victor Uche Ezenwata, abused the pupil on multiple occasions. Ezenwata pleaded guilty under a plea bargain and received an 18-year jail term. Witnesses testified that Arinze inserted his finger into the child’s private parts while the teacher engaged in other indecent acts. Justice Soladoye dismissed the defence testimony as self-serving and ordered that Arinze’s name be added to the state’s sexual offenders register. The ruling underscores the court’s position on protecting minors and holding perpetrators to account.
