Kenyan and Ethiopian Runners Win Enugu International Marathon as Nigerians Lead 10km Race
Kenyan runner Edwin Kipyogo won the men’s 42km race at the second Enugu City International Marathon in 2:23:38, earning $15,000. Ethiopia’s Habtamu Girma and Shiferaw Daltiemayu finished second and third. Ethiopia’s Zennebe Aberu won the women’s marathon in 2:48:40, ahead of compatriot Negashu Chatiu and Kenya’s Adugna Mahlet. Nigerian runners also received special prizes in both marathon categories, with Iliya Emmanuel Dung and Deborah Pam Badung emerging as the top Nigerian male and female finishers. In the 10km races, Plateau State athletes dominated the men’s event, with Gang James Boyi taking first place. Governor Peter Mbah said Enugu intends to build on the competition and position the state as a major African destination for sports, tourism and investment.
