FG to Fund Robotic Surgery Training as Ogun Academy Targets 400 Specialists
The Federal Government says eligible Nigerian doctors and medical students will receive full TETFund sponsorship for robotic surgery training at the newly opened RHV-RoboMed Robotic Academy in Redemption City, Ogun State. The academy, described as Nigeria’s first dedicated robotic surgery training centre, plans to train 400 specialists within two years. Its programme will cover surgeons, biomedical engineers, operating-theatre personnel, product specialists and administrators. The facility has two surgical robots valued at about $4 million. One will be used for clinical procedures, while the other will be reserved for hands-on training. Graduates of the postgraduate programme are expected to receive certification through the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. Education Minister Tunji Alausa said the partnership would be supported through TETFund and could help more Nigerian health professionals gain advanced surgical skills without travelling abroad.
