US Strikes Iranian Military Sites, Fragile Ceasefire at Risk
American forces launched new “self-defence” strikes on Iranian radar and drone command facilities at the weekend. The operation, carried out by US fighter jets, targeted a ground control radar station and drone command sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island. Washington says the action responded to Iran shooting down an MQ-1 drone over international waters. Iran rejects that account, claiming the drone violated its territorial airspace before being brought down. Tensions have also flared in the wider Gulf, with Kuwait’s air defences intercepting incoming missiles and drones. The latest exchange tests a truce agreed in April and raises fresh doubts over whether the ceasefire can hold.
