Electrical Expert Warns: Don’t Charge Your Phone on the Bed

An electrical safety educator has warned against charging phones on beds or under pillows to reduce the risk of fire. Speaking at a safety awareness event in Awka, he explained that soft surfaces trap heat and cause devices to overheat, especially during the rainy season when power surges are common. He urged Nigerians to charge phones on hard, flat surfaces and to unplug chargers once devices are full. He also cautioned against using damaged cables, fake chargers and overloaded sockets. The educator called on community groups, schools and churches to step up public campaigns on basic electrical safety to protect lives and property.

Always place your phone on a hard, flat surface and unplug it once fully charged to prevent overheating and possible fire hazards.
