How Morning Pages Can Support Prayer and Sexual Purity

Morning pages are three uncensored pages written immediately after waking, before checking a phone or beginning other activities. As a spiritual practice, they can help clear emotional noise and reveal worries, shame, relationship tensions, or fears that may otherwise influence our choices. Write continuously without editing, judging, or rereading what comes out. The aim is not perfect writing. It is honest self-awareness before God. After writing, pray about what surfaced. Starting the day this way can help us process our emotions, make conscious choices, and pursue sexual purity with clarity and grace. "In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly." — Psalm 5:3 Confession: I acknowledge that sex is sacred and designed by God for divine purposes. By His grace, I will honour and uphold its sanctity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

For people who have tried this, does writing before prayer make your thoughts clearer, or can it become another distraction?

I agree, giving your mind some space beforehand can make prayer feel more intentional and less scattered.

The idea of putting worries, shame, and relationship tension on paper first may help people notice what they are carrying into prayer.

Uncensored writing could be useful, but it should not be treated as a replacement for prayer, accountability, or deliberate choices around sexual purity.

Keeping a notebook beside the bed seems practical: write the three pages, identify one concern, then bring that concern into prayer before touching your phone.
