NGX Gains ₦1.38tn in One Day as Blue-Chip Stocks Rally
Nigerian equities closed Friday on a strong note as sustained demand for blue-chip shares added ₦1.383 trillion to the market capitalisation. The market rose 0.90% from ₦154.442 trillion to ₦155.825 trillion, while the All-Share Index gained 2,142.38 points to close at 241,298.47. Seplat Energy led the gainers with a 10% rise to ₦12,320.60 per share. Transcorp Hotels, Omatek Ventures, Daar Communications and University Press also posted notable gains. Overall, 33 stocks advanced while 19 declined, pushing the market's year-to-date return to 55.06%. Trading volume rose 21.04% to 605.17 million shares worth ₦29.87 billion in 38,421 deals. Jaiz Bank led by volume, while Transcorp Hotels recorded the highest value of shares traded at ₦6 billion. Total Nigeria topped the losers' chart after falling 10% to ₦576 per share.
