ICPC, EFCC and FCCPC Warn Celebrities Against Promoting Fraudulent Products
The ICPC, EFCC and FCCPC have warned celebrities and social-media influencers that they could be held liable for endorsing fraudulent products and services. At a joint stakeholder meeting in Abuja on October 30, the agencies said many Nigerians have lost billions of naira to crypto scams, fake loan apps and other schemes promoted by popular figures online. The FCCPC said influencers cannot claim ignorance when their endorsements mislead consumers. The agencies advised celebrities to verify products with regulators, including NAFDAC, the SEC and the FCCPC, before accepting endorsement deals. Nigerians were also urged to report suspicious products and adverts that appear too good to be true.
