Kogi Orders Arrests After Herder’s Death Triggers Deadly Reprisal Attacks in Lokoja

The Kogi State Government has ordered the arrest of a vigilante leader and other suspects after an alleged killing of an unarmed herder triggered reprisal attacks in Abugi, Kuchinda and Mikugi communities in Kupa Kingdom, Lokoja LGA. Authorities said the crisis began when a local vigilante member allegedly shot the herder over suspected cattle rustling. Armed persons then allegedly carried out retaliatory attacks on residents, leading to multiple deaths and increased tension. The government says security agencies have been directed to secure the affected communities and arrest everyone linked to both incidents. Residents have been urged to remain calm, avoid reprisals and provide credible information to investigators.
