Igbo Monarch Urges Immediate Release of Nnamdi Kanu, ‘A Voice for Peace’
His Royal Majesty Ozo Prince Chukwubuzor Mba, the Ozo Akajiofor II and Ozo Ementa Emeimo I of Igbo Land, has called for the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra. He said freeing Kanu is key to restoring peace and progress in the South-East. Speaking on ABN TV’s Igbo Bu Igbo program, the monarch lamented what he described as deliberate judicial delays. He noted that no fresh charges exist, yet the courts have pushed Kanu’s hearing from July 18 to October 10, 2025. Describing Kanu as “the heart of the Igbo people,” Ozo Mba linked his release to tackling insecurity, farmer displacement, and herdsmen attacks. He recalled visiting Kanu with Dr. Sylvester and Princess Nnennaya Kalu, and said Kanu urged supporters to remain peaceful. He urged traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and stakeholders in the South-East to unite in demanding Kanu’s freedom. He prayed for divine intervention and praised ABN TV for amplifying Igbo concerns. “Until Nnamdi Kanu is free, our land will not heal,” he stated.
