How Music and Dance Work Together
Dance is often performed with music, though some styles create their own rhythm through movement. Tap dance and gumboot dance, for example, use footwork as part of the sound. Many music and dance styles developed together. The jig, waltz, tango, disco and salsa are familiar examples. Other forms share similar names but evolved separately, such as classical music and classical ballet. Choreography and music complement each other to build rhythm, mood and storytelling for both dancers and the audience.
