Journalist Alleges Assault by Kosofe LG Chairman, Demands Police Investigation
A Murhi International Television reporter has petitioned the police against the Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, accusing him and aides of assault, unlawful detention, property seizure and abuse of office during a screening exercise on March 11. According to the petition, the chairman’s security team confiscated the journalist’s camera, beat and threatened him, then detained him at Ogudu Police Station where his phone was also taken. He was only released after intervention by the Divisional Police Officer and required medical treatment for his injuries. Journalists for Democratic Rights has condemned the attack as a threat to press freedom and called on the police and Lagos State House of Assembly to launch a full probe. The organisation warned that such incidents undermine accountability and democratic norms.
