Baba-Ahmed: Despite Rising Revenues, Poverty and Insecurity Worsen Under Tinubu

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, says the Tinubu administration rolled out major reforms without proper planning or analysis. He told Politics Today that the fuel subsidy removal lacked a basic SWOT assessment and that Nigerians were not prepared for its fallout. Baba-Ahmed dismissed claims of unconstitutional power grabs, insisting any change can only come through the ballot box. He expressed disappointment that President Tinubu has yet to tackle insecurity, the high cost of living or corruption. Despite higher government revenues, the PRP leader alleged poverty and corruption are on the rise. The federal government maintains its reforms are vital to stabilizing the economy and driving long-term growth.

Maybe we're oversimplifying by blaming the administration alone, since global challenges and legacy issues might be dragging progress down.

A clear SWOT assessment and community-based security audits should have accompanied the subsidy removal to minimize unintended hardships on vulnerable Nigerians.
