‘Why Bury His Brains?’ Mother of Slain NYSC Member Demands Justice
Abdulsamad “Kesh” Jamiu, a 24-year-old civil engineer serving with NYSC, was shot dead in his Kubwa bedroom in the early hours of April 26, 2026. His mother, Habibat Abubakar, says she only learned the grisly details upon returning from a family burial and collapsed on hearing that soldiers allegedly killed her son and ordered vigilantes to mop his blood and bury his brain. Abubakar describes her son as disciplined, devoted to his faith and family, with big plans cut short in an instant. She is calling on President Tinubu, civil society groups and Amnesty International to ensure a transparent investigation into the soldiers’ conduct and hold those responsible to account. Jamiu was laid to rest at the Muslim cemetery in Kubwa. He is survived by his parents, sister Farida and younger siblings. The case continues to draw public outrage and growing demands for accountability.
