Bandits Kill 17 in Dangulbi, Sokoto — Seven Sallah Visitors Among Victims
Seventeen people, including seven Sallah visitors, were shot dead when bandits on about 150 motorcycles attacked Dangulbi community in Tureta LGA, Sokoto State, on Sunday, May 31, 2026. Residents told a national newspaper the gunmen, armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the village between 10am and 11am. They fired indiscriminately, looted around 20 shops and stayed in the community for several hours, preventing families from burying the dead until after sunset. The attackers came from a known hideout in Zamfara State, passing through neighbouring villages where they spent the night. They also abducted some residents, who later escaped when a rainstorm caused confusion. Many villagers have fled to nearby communities. They are calling on federal and state authorities to deploy more security forces and improve road infrastructure so officers can respond faster and protect both lives and farmlands.
