When Helping a Romance Scammer Went Wrong: My Fight Against an Internet Fraudster
I founded Safe Digital Hub Enterprise to convert internet scammers into legitimate business owners. My goal is to protect Nigeria’s reputation and guide our youth toward honest livelihoods. Last year I met Aquila Takim Boniface, an illegal resident in Ugep posing as a UN psychiatrist. He defrauded a Croatian woman of millions of naira through a romance scam. We agreed to invest his illicit funds in cassava processing, agriculture and entertainment, with profits shared fairly among his victim, the community and the government. He broke our agreement, dismantled the equipment we bought, threatened my family and resumed scamming abroad. He even tried to use soldiers and cultists to intimidate me when I pressed for justice. I share this story to alert law enforcement and fellow Nigerians about cross-border internet scams. We must expose predators hiding in our communities and protect innocent victims worldwide.
