UNN, Not Nnaji, Sought Out-of-Court Settlement in Academic Records Dispute
An aide to former Minister Uche Nnaji says the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) initiated the out-of-court settlement in his academic records case. Court records before Justice Hauwa Yilwa show UNN’s counsel approached Nnaji’s legal team for an amicable resolution. Nnaji’s lawyers simply acknowledged the proposal and requested an adjournment to review it. At no point did Nnaji or his team initiate settlement talks, his aide Dr Robert Ngwu emphasized. The court declined to regularise UNN’s late filings until the settlement outcome and adjourned the matter to July 8, 2026, for further hearing. In the suit (FHC/ABJ/CS/1909/2025), Nnaji seeks a prerogative mandamus to compel UNN to release his transcripts, supervisory orders from the Education Minister and NUC, and an injunction against tampering with his records.
