The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has placed a total ban on any cultural celebration by students of the university involving any form of fetish or ritual practices.

Notice of the ban was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Edwin Omeje.

According to the statement, the ban took effect on Tuesday, June 15 2021.

The statement read partly, “I am therefore constrained to direct an immediate total ban of any cultural celebration by students of the University of Nigeria involving any form of fetish or ritual practices. This ban takes effect from today, Tuesday, 15th June 2021.

“Following this directive therefore, I humbly request all relevant authority to regularly sensor and monitor every cultural celebration programme by students at the Faculty, Departmental, State and all other levels.

“Please, kindly inform the students under your guide that henceforth, defaulters to this ban will be made to face the due punishment as enshrined in our regulations as a university.

UNN Bans Cultural Display By Students

The Nsukka Democratic Movement (NDM), a coalition civil society groups in Enugu North Senatorial District, otherwise known as Nsukka zone, has said it's strongly behind Hon. Nnaemeka Aleke on an environmental degradation suit he filed against the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and Viagem Property and Investment Limited over environmental degradation in one of the host communities, Obukpa, in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State. 

In a statement signed by the coalition's Secretary General, Comrade James Ezema, the NDM said “the coalition is worried that a project which was intended to solve accommodation for students has created a desaster waiting to happen. 

“As a result of the hostel project, an entire host community is at the brink of being wiped out due to the obstruction of natural water courses and diversion of erosion into the host community and environs. 

“If nothing is urgently done, our people in Obukpa axis who have been living peacefully with the members of management of the University of Nigeria and the university community could be wiped out. 

“In solidarity with Hon. Nnaemeka Aleke on the subject matter in court, the Nsukka Democratic Movement (NDM), as a coalition of civil society organisations hereby declare full support for the court case. 

“We expect the court under Justice Mathew Eluke to do the needful by granting a perpetual injunction, retraining the university and its contractors, including Viagem Property and Investment Limited or their agents from continuing the project until the determination of the substantive matter before the court to avert a major catastrophe in Nsukka communities. 

“Henceforth, the Coalition and its national leadership will bring their full weight to bearer on the matter as the movement will fully mobilise to the court from the next adjourned”, the group vowed.

Beyond the suit on environmental degradation, the group accused the current Vice Chancellor of UNN, Prof. Charles Igwe of poor management of the institution's facilities and indiscriminate construction of lockup shops in the university premises.

The Coalition said, “the level of degradation in the tertiary institution will shock any alumni of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, if he or she visits the once revered campus today. 

“The most unfortunate part is that the Vice Chancellor is fast turning the institution into a market place rather than a citadel of learning for human transformation.

“Right now, new lions and lionesses are being raised in a filthy environment, with contractors busy on sites building lockup shops instead of lectures rooms”, the statement concluded.

The UNN 2020-21 Postgraduate admission list (Batch A) was released late last year. Then subsequently, other batches were released. 
In December last year, there was a notification that the portal for hostel accomodation would be opened on January 11th for application.

On that very January 11th, the portal Was Not opened (at 10am, 11am or 3pm or any other time on that day)! They cannot deny this. From that time till now, No official news, nothing. 

You can check the school website to confirm. 
Terrible and disappointing from a Top Nigerian university like UNN. 

What is more disappointing is the news I confirmed recently from unofficial sources that the portal was 'Nicodemusly' being opened to allow some group of unnamed individuals to apply.

When will we ever do things in a transparent way in this country?

Lectures have already started, but for some persons, no comfortable place to stay. No opportunity to apply in a [b]free, fair and transparen[/b]t way for hostel accomodation. accomodation.

UNN's Current Dance Of Shame!

The University of Ibadan, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the University of Ilorin has ranked the top three universities in Nigeria by AD Scientific Index, a leading global ranking body based in Turkey.

The ranking contained in the list of 2021 ‘World Scientists and University Rankings,’ according to a UNILORIN bulletin issued on Monday, cited UI, UNN, and UNILORIN as the best three universities in Nigeria based on the quality of their scientists.

AD Scientific Index stated that the University of Ibadan ranked 19th in Africa and 1,350 in the world, while the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, occupied the 25th spot on the continent and 1,522 globally.

It stated that UNILORIN ranked 41st in Africa and 1,941 in the world.

“The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) came fourth, while the University of Calabar (UNICAL) was named the fifth-best university in Nigeria on the rankings.

“The ranking reveals the competency of institutions to attract prized scientists and the ability of institutions to encourage advances and keep the scientists,’’ it said.

AD Scientific Index also stated that Harvard University made the top spot on the global list, while the University of Cape Town, South Africa, was adjudged the best African institution.

“While justifying the parameters for the ranking, AD Scientific Index said that amidst many university ranking systems, we have developed a ranking system with a different method based on the principle of including only meritorious scientists,’’ it said.

Reacting to the rankings, UNILORIN’s Dean of Students Affairs, Lanre Ajibade, congratulated the institution and the Vice-Chancellor, Sulyman Abdulkareem, on the achievement.

Mr Ajibade noted that the ranking justified the investments made by the vice-chancellor on impactful research and his insistence on quality research.

A 300 level student of University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) identified as Melian has lost her life in fatal motor accident involving Okeyson Motors and another commercial truck while travelling to Lagos state.

The student from the faculty of agriculture died on her way to meet her family in Lagos after writing her first semester exams.

A friend of the deceased has taken to social media to mourn her. He wrote, "This is Melian. The only cleared honorable from the faculty of Agriculture. A very good friend of mine. I never doubt her loyalty and support till now. She finished exams sometimes ago and decided to travel but I have been begging her not to travel because I need her vote. 

"Yesterday I called her to confirm if she will be part of our meeting but she begged me to bear with her that she wouldn't make it. Moreover she told me that due to some unavoidable reasons emanating from her family, that as she is talking to me she is on her way going to Lagos with her brothers mother-in-law going for Omugo, I wished her a safe trip to Lagos. Today I got the most cruel news ever in my life".

300Level UNN Female Student Dies In Fatal Motor Accident

Senate President of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Ifeanyichukwu Nnamani, has stated his own side of the story following his purported impeachment over alleged misappropriation of students union funds.

Speaking on Lion FM Nsukka yesterday , Nnamani said he was impeached for declining to approve N65, 553,000.00 for the construction of 150 relaxation outdoor seats.

He said he took the stand because there were more pressing demands such as renovation of toilets, leaking roofs and drainage and installation of solar panels to boost power supply.

I will protect the welfare of Nigerian students and will never support impunity and corruption in the SUG even though my office is threatened,” he said, adding: “I refused to give my consent until due process is followed.”

He dared his accusers to produce a copy of alleged transactions showing he misappropriated N3, 238, 500. 00. He said he does not authorise withdrawal from the union’s account.

According to him, that is the purview of the financial secretary, thereby rendering the accusations false.

UNN SUG Senate President Clears The Air On The Purported And Illegal Impeachment

The management of the University of Nigeria Nsukka has expelled two final year students over examination malpractice (impersonation to be exact).

This was made known in a memo from the University’s Registrar.

The memo partly reads:

This is to inform you that Senate, at its 407th Meeting held on Wednesday 30th June 2021, considered its paper 405/17 which contained the recommendations of its examination malpractice committee, and approved that the underlisted two students should be expelled from the university having been found guilty of impersonation under Category “A: offence, in line with Chapter 3.9 of the Undergraduate Academic Regulations.

They are:

Okorie, Success (2015/203688) – Department of Political Science
Oparaeke Akwaugo (2016/231502) – Department of Sociology and Anthropology
You are requested to take action in line with the above decision of the Senate and inform all concerned accordingly

Summary of What Actually Happened:

Success failed a course and asked Oparaeke to write it for her the next year. Unfortunately, Oparaeke was caught. The issue was sent to the disciplinary committee and they were bought expelled from the University.
When the expulsion decision was taken, Oparaeke was in her final year while Success had an extra year.

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has been formally invited as Guest Speaker to the 2021 Founders' Day of University of Nigeria, Nsukka,UNN.

This was made known Sunday, during a courtesy visit on the Governor by Prof. Bennett Nwanguma, Chairman Senate Ceremonials, Committee, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, at Government House, Uyo.

Governor Emmanuel who accepted the invitation as Guest Speaker of the 61st Founders' Day of University of Nsukka, Nigeria billed for October 7, 2021, thanked the delegation from the University community for nominating him to speak at the occasion indicating that the session will be an avenue to interact and share knowledge and experiences which will be of benefits to the University Community.

"Let me thank the entire University for nominating Akwa Ibom State because I am representing the people first, so I want to appreciate that recognition.

Speaking on the contributions of the University towards nation building, Governor Emmanuel maintained that Nigeria can surmount its challenges if there is a re-awakening of a moral rebirth in the minds of the people to take up their responsibilities, the country will be better off.

‘’We need to pass a message that we can fix it, we must rejig the system and get things done, we should not allow many things to decay in our land and the only way to do that is to pass information where we try to rebuild a moral rebirth in our people and the confidence in our people that we must forge ahead and if we don’t fix it nobody will do it for us’’, the governor stated. 

In his remark, the Chairman, UNN Senate Ceremonials Committee, Professor Bennett Nwanguma, who led the delegation, said the Founders' Day Ceremony was an annual event at which founders of the prestigious institution are remembered and honoured, with particular tributes to Nigeria’s first President, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and his generation of Nigerian leaders. 

He thanked Governor Emmanuel and members of his cabinet for the warm reception and hospitality accorded him and his team and expressed the gratitude of the UNN community for the governor’s acceptance to feature at the event.

Expounding further, Prof. Nwanguma, the Chairman of the event planning committee, said two reasons informed the choice of Governor Emmanuel as Guest Speaker for the year’s event. 

Firstly, that Mr. Udom Emmanuel, with his record of performance as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has gained the credence of the University of Nigeria community as one from whom they would draw inspiration and motivation.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN branch, on Thursday, claimed the Federal Government rejected the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, UTAS, proposed by the national union (ASUU) because it was developed by Nigerians.

The union also accused the Federal GovernmentFG of a deliberate attempt to kill the future of Nigerian students so as to perpetuate themselves and their children in leadership positions.

ASUU also said that the way Federal Government shy away from the agreements it reached with the Union, indicates that it wants to enthrone a system where the poor would never have access to tertiary education in the country.

In a press statement which emanated from a congress of the Union in UNN and signed by the chairman, Comrade Christian Opata, and the Secretary, Comrade Michael Nwokedi, ASUU wondered why it would take a series of protests and the interventions of prominent Nigerians before the Federal Government could sign and honour part of the agreement it reached with the Union.

Part of the statement also reads “That since December 23, 2020, Memorandum of Action, MoA, was signed to suspend the nine months strike embarked by our union in 2020, FG is yet to implement the MoA fully.

“That the FG appears to be more at home with killing indigenous knowledge and discouraging local content in its pursuit of development.

“If not, why have they failed to adopt the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, UTAS, which the union developed as a viable alternative to IPPIS- a very corrupt payment platform.

“The FG subjected UTAS to series of integrity test, yet no such test was conducted on IPPIS. The results of the test on UTAS indicate that Nigerians can solve their problem.

“However, government is not comfortable with that because it was developed by Nigerians. What a shame!

“The 2009 Agreement is still a subject of controversy. To renegotiate it has been a problem. This is when it was supposed to be reviewed every three years.

“Consequent on the associated delays in the renegotiation, many Nigerian academics left the country and are making waves outside, contributing to the economy of other nations rather than ours.

“For a government that has consistently failed to prioritize education to establish universities indiscriminately is laughable and pitiable. Our universities are now glorified secondary schools. It may interest you to know that some state universities in Nigeria owe their staff close to four months arrears of salary. Why establish more when the ones in existence are not properly funded?

“Since 2009 till date, Nigerian lecturers’ salary has remained the same and the lowest throughout Africa. War-torn Burundi pays better than Nigeria. Where then is the ‘greed’ of Nigerian lecturers as espoused by governments and its lackeys? 

“We plead with Nigerians to plead with the FG not to push us into going back to the trenches. Our children have suffered enough. For us in UNN, we are ready and fully mobilized should government decide not to put its ears to the ground to hear the ballad of the ‘ants,” the Union said.

Ani Stephen (SUG PRESIDENT UNN) and Comr. Ugwuja Obinna (SUG PRESIDENT UNEC) were indicted by 23 members of a panel headed by the SUG Senate President. 

According to the Senate President, "On 22nd July, 2021, I was called by Comr. Ani Stephen (SUG PRESIDENT UNN) and Comr. Ugwuja Obinna (SUG PRESIDENT UNEC) to sign and approve the sum of #65,553,000 (Sixty five million, five hundred and fifty three thousand naira) for the construction of 150 relaxation outdoor seats proposed as Students Union Project for 2019/2020 academic session which was suspended by the Senate on 28th June, 2021 due to agitation from students who were not pleased by the fact that their funds will be used to enrich the pockets of those that were supposed to protect their interest."

*Scholarship for indigent students

The Best Graduating Student for 2019/2020 academic session, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Obianuju Ogugofor, Friday, said her philosophy in life is to the best in whatever task she undertakes.
The 23-year-old Ogugofor, from Enugu State, came top of 330 graduands inducted into the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, PCN, at the Princess Alexandra Auditorium, UNN. She told the audience that she usually woke by 5 am everyday to prepare for lectures.

While thanking her parents for their support, she appreciated her lecturers, adding that their efforts in imparting knowledge to them would be multiplied by the positive contributions they would make in society.

Misleading Report: UNN Lecturer, Department React To Defamatory Publication By Sahara Reporters

A lecturer in the department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Dr Chidi Ugwu has denied with facts, allegation of forgery labelled against him by online publishing outfit, Sahara Reporters in a story published on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.

VANTAGE NEWS reports that Sahara Reporters had in the story accused Ugwu of falsifying documents that helped him secure a research fellowship position in Harvard University.

The online publishing outfit also accused the lecturer of being a “part of a ring of power brokers in the university that goes right up to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Igwe, who has been entangled in allegations of age falsification.”

According to Sahara Reporters, Ugwu ‘was said to have added to his credentials claims of having a diploma from the University of Helsinki,’ adding that the 46-year-old lecturer “also claimed he has been a guest lecturer at the University of Melbourne since 2017.”

In a rejoinder sent to VANTAGE NEWS, Ugwu denied the allegations and accused a former lecturer of Sociology and Anthropology, Professor Emenike Chinenyengozi Ejiogu of being the mastermind behind the malicious publication.

Ugwu said that Ejiogu had threatened to deal with him via a text message after he and a few other lecturers that our correspondent verified that were part of the normal regularization exercise for proper placement of university staff found out that Ejiogu’s credentials do not meet his placement as a Professor by the standards set by UNN.

He said, “Just in case you need a bit more light, ‘Professor’ Ejiogu was hired by the UNN in 2014, into the Department of Sociology & Anthropology where I teach. The university required him, as is the rule, to submit his publications and other credentials so they could regularize him and determine what rank it would be proper to place him. For six years, he employed all sorts of tactics to dodge this exercise. After having tried for years on end to get him to submit himself for this exercise, the University Council had no choice than to relieve him of the temporary appointment.

“Currently unemployed, he’s in court with the UNN council, having sued them from what is left of the salaries he collected under a false pretense. My offense in that process was that I participated in running some background checks on him somewhere along the line. So, he believes I am part of his enemies that should now be smeared at all costs. He believes he is trying to pay me back in my own coin. But I have no coin. I use only genuine notes.”

Ugwu who presented evidences of his involvement with the University of Helsinki in Finland and the University of Melbourne, Australia, also showed an Email sent by Havard University dismissing the petition against him as allegedly brought to its knowledge by Professor Ejiogu.

Our Correspondent in the quest for truth interviewed the Sociology and Anthropology Head of Department, Professor Christopher Ugwoke who confirmed Ugwu’s story, saying that the matter had been investigated and Ugwu was found “thoroughly innocent.”

“It’s an embarrassment to the department and university. The story by Sahara Reporters lacks merit and should totally be disregarded. The Department has investigated the matter and found him (Ugwu) thoroughly innocent,” he said.

A non-academic staff in the department who spoke to VANTAGE NEWS on the condition of anonymity described Ugwu as a “scholar per excellence” who has been making giant strides in the academic world.

“Dr Chidi Ugwu has made this department proud. He has continued to make us proud and I don’t think anybody can bring him down with such a defamatory and fallacious story. It is a pity that an organisation like Sahara Reporters would practice such ‘black market’ journalism. It is embarrassing to say the least.

“We all know that Professor Ejiogu is the one behind all this. He is yet to get over what happened during the last regularization exercise where it was discovered that he did not merit his position as a Professor by the standards of this great citadel of learning.”

Ugwu threatened to take action against Sahara Reporters if it fails to retract the story by conducting a thorough investigation on the matter.

Attempts made to reach Professor Ejiogu proved abortive as his lines were not reachable.

A REJOINDER – WHO IS BUSTING WHO?

Moments ago, my attention was drawn to a story with the above headline, published by SaharaReporters on Wednesday, 29 September 2021. If not that the internet never forgets, I would let this slide, especially given that we have graver matters of the Nigerian state to contend with, plus the fact that I am too busy for media exchanges at this time.

1. First, that SaharaReportersof all news media never bothered to contact me before going to town with this sort of defamatory publication was my first surprise. This runs counter to a major principle of journalism founded on the juristic dictum that says,audio alteram partem– always ensure to hear from the other side. I understand, though, that sometimes the rush to grab readers with a hot headline could get the better of the reporter. But this principle is taught from 101 classes in mass communication and media practice.

2. Let me state firmly that I have no doubts about who is behind it all and I will tell you shortly. By the way, I’m just doing this to put the records straight for the public. Otherwise, I would not bother about this idle smear mongering. I’m a very busy man.Google Chidi Ugwu if you need to see what I have been busying with.

3. For background, you may want to know this: In late 2019, following a rigorous selection process that involved hundreds of exceptional scholars across the world, I got selected for two research fellowship positions in Harvard University. And let me mention that the two research institutes that selected me are unrelated and were working completely independent of each other. It was a bit troubling for meto select the one I eventually settled for.

Moments after my selection into the Harvard Radcliffe Institute was announced in the University of Nigeria, one ‘Professor’ EmenikeChinenyengoziEjiogu,who claimed he had dual positions as a professor in the USA and a visiting scholar in South Africa, sent me a message over the email threatening to deal with me.To make do his threat, he wrote to my Institute at Harvard directly, with trumped up allegations that I was a dubious liar who defrauded students, intimidatedfellow staff and falsely claimed to be a Guest Lecturer in the University of Melbourne, Australia. The Harvard Radcliffe Institute, after due investigation, dismissed his claims andwrote me the following email (which I prefer to screenshot;I cut out their names here because within the short period I needed to dispense with this useless distraction, it was not possible to officially secure permission to put out their names here; this may be done if it becomes expedient and permissible in the near future):

5. Just in case you need a bit more light,‘Professor’ Ejiogu was hired by the UNN in 2014, into the Department of Sociology & Anthropology where I teach. The university required him, as is the rule, to submit his publications and other credentials so they could regularize him and determine what rank it would be proper to place him. For six years, he employed all sorts of tactics to dodge this exercise.After having tried for years on end to get him to submit himself for this exercise, the University Council had no choice than to relieve him of the temporary appointment. Currently unemployed, he’s in court with the UNN council, having sued them from what is left of the salaries he collected under a false pretense.My offense in that process was that I participated in running some background checks on him somewhere along the line. So, he believes I am part of his enemies that should now be smeared at all costs.He believes he is trying to pay me back in my own coin. But I have no coin. I use only genuine notes.

6. My real embarrassment was that this pathfinding online medium could publish a potentially defamatory report of this nature without seeking to hear from both sides of the narrative. Remember Chimamanda Adichie’s admonition about the danger of a single story?

7. Maybe I should even mention thatI’ve used my own hands to forward that smear publication to my institute here at Harvard. They already know where this is coming from because they have investigated these same allegations themselves.

8. I don’t think it’s necessary to begin laying bare my certificates for everyone to see. I will do so when the time comes.

10. The report also alleged that my claim to have a diploma certificate from the University of Helsinki is false. I am wondering why it was just diploma, out of all my certificates from BSc, MSc to PhD, that they pointed to. I will choose another occasion to display my certificates for the public to see. I don’t feel that this smear mongering has deserved it yet.

11. Maybe I don’t need to mention that you don’t get selected for a fellowship at Harvard because you have presented some damned certificates. Your proposal stating your research agenda, plus your publications that are available on the internet, are your major bargaining resources. Again, Google Chidi Ugwu to see for yourself. You don’t miss or lie your way into Harvard. Make no mistake to think about Harvard with your naijaconsciousness.

12. Let me make a proposal to SharaReporters: If after a more thoroughgoing investigation and you discover that you have been misled to accuse me wrongly, will you retract the report you published against me on 29 September 2021 with an apology? Or will you still dare me to do my worst?

13. To aid your investigation, I offer to let you have all the links and contacts you need in Harvard, in Helsinki, in the University of Nigeria, and in the University of Melbourne. Remember that most of the higher institutions in Europe and America are very big with several institutes and centers that run semi-autonomously. That one of such institutes or centers fails to confirm your request is not enough for you to draw your conclusion just yet.

UNN Lecturer, Department React To Defamatory Publication By Sahara Reporters

A video making rounds online captures the moment some Zoology students at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, were having a practical class.

They female students were given Snakes to carry by a man believed to be their lecturer, but this left them petrified.

At the beginning of the video, the man could be seen holding a Snake which he tried handing over to a student who was very scared to hold it.

She expressed fear that it may hurt her but the man and another female student encouraged her to do it that it was safe. Interestingly, her classmate stood beside her holding a Snake but she also looked afraid as though she would drop it anytime soon.

In another part of the clip, the man was showing another student how to hold the Snake, after hesitating, she eventually took to her heels.

UNN appoints Gov. Emmanuel Guest Speaker for 61st Founders Day

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, has appointed Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel as Guest Speaker for her 2021 Founders Day of University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). The announcement was made on Sunday during a courtesy call on the Governor at Government House Uyo, by Prof. Bennett Nwanguma, Chairman Senate Ceremonials Committee, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Governor Emmanuel who accepted the invitation as Guest Speaker of the 61st Founders Day of University of Nsukka, Nigeria which holds on October 7, 2021, thanked the delegation from the University community for nominating him to speak at the occasion indicating that the session will be an avenue to interact and share knowledge and experiences which will be of benefit to the University Community.

In his words, “…let me thank the entire University for nominating Akwa Ibom State because I am representing the people first, so I want to appreciate that recognition. This lecture means a lot to us because this is an opportunity to share experiences, interact with the University community which we believe will be beneficial to the people as it will pass information, knowledge and experience to the people and the entire university community’’.

Speaking on the contributions of the University towards nation building, Governor Emmanuel maintained that Nigeria can surmount its challenges if there is a re-awakening of a moral rebirth in the minds of the people to take up their responsibilities, the country will be better off.

Hear him, "We need to pass a message that we can fix it, we must rejig the system and get things done, we should not allow many things to decay in our land and the only to do that is to pass information where we try to rebuild a moral rebirth in our people and the confidence in our people that we must forge ahead and if we don’t fix it nobody will do it for us’’.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman, UNN Senate Ceremonials Committee, Professor Bennett Nwanguma, who led the delegation, said the Founder Day Ceremony was an annual event at which founders of the prestigious institution are remembered and honoured, with particular tribute to Nigeria’s first President, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and his generation of Nigerian leaders. He affirmed that the 2021 edition of the ceremony, being the 61st in the series, is scheduled for Thursday, 7th of October.

Prof. Nwanguma thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel and members of his cabinet for the warm reception and hospitality accorded him and his team and expressed the gratitude of the UNN community for the governor’s acceptance to feature at the event.

He said two reasons informed the choice of Governor Emmanuel as Guest Speaker for the year’s event. Firstly, that Mr. Udom Emmanuel, with his record of performance as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has gained the credence of the University of Nigeria community as one from whom they would draw inspiration and motivation. Secondly, that the University of Nigeria enjoys historical relationship with Akwa Ibom State, because the motion for its establishment was moved by Chief Ibanga Akpabio in May 1955, he added.

What started off as a dance competition ended with a student being rusticated.

A female student residing in Apkabio hostel in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka has been expelled following a sensual dance she displayed last night in front of the said hostel after she got into a dance competition.

It was gathered that some guys came with a truck carrying a DJ blasting music to draw attention of students who care to listen, and visiting them in their hostels (female hostels especially) to get attention of the students there..

The guys got to the Akpabio hall of residence (hostel) and got the attention of the students with a dance competition which will reward the best dancer with the sum of 10k (#10,000).

The dance competition started and this Young damsel started dancing but due to the fierce competition and cheers the other dancers got from the crowd who were the judges, she decided to go berserk displaying her butt to the audience...
In the video you will notice that it was a half view at first but as the cheers became louder she went total unclad leaving her body covered with a swim suit only... Omo this girl started tweaking with her ass.... 
Na this time things change for her.....

In the second video the dean student affairs made the pronouncement that he would personally see to it that she is rusticated and prosecuted for polluting the university environment with sensual dance display..

Now the question is, why should rustication be the punishment.

Activist Throws Shade At Gustavo Cubana For Offering Money To UNN Stripper

The Dean of Students Affairs, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Prof Edwin Omeje has threatened to expel a first year student of the institution simply identified as Mirabel who was caught on camera dancing in a swimming pant.

VANTAGE NEWS reports that the student pulled off her trouser while dancing for show promoters at the Akpabio hostel at the university.

An eye witness told our correspondent that the show promoters promised to give N10,000 and N100,000 worth of VIP ticket to any student that goes half-naked while dancing in front of the hostel.

The uproar as the student was dancing attracted the Dean who arrived at the scene, threatening to expel and to prosecute the student.

The Dean said, “it is not just expelling her from this university, she will be prosecuted for destroying humanity, for destroying womanhood and bringing the name of this university to disrepute”

A student simply identified as Ann queried the Dean’s decision to expel the Mirabel.

“She didn’t go naked, she only pulled her trouser and this is not strange at all. I don’t see why she should be expelled by the Dean,” Ann said.

Another student who chose to remain anonymous wondered why the Dean reacted swiftly over such a matter while the school falls short on pressing issues affecting students welfare.

She said, “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a female student to get hostel in this university. This is a yearly occurrence but the school has done nothing about it. Some of us would pay and still beg for a space. The Dean wouldn’t respond fast but here he is threatening to expel a student for dancing.”

The Dean could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.

Hello naijaworlders,I want to apply for my masters degree and I'm having University of Nigeria,Nsukka on my mind.and I want to study Economics education......... the problem is not gaining admission because I had 2:1 in the same course but am just scared if the program will be fast or not In Term of defending the project and graduating at or within the period of 18 months to two years.... comparing to uni ilorin and uni ibadan who their program are fast........so I want to know if they follow the Normal 18 months because it seems I've been having some complain abt the school from someone studying physics related and educational foundation......

VANTAGE NEWS reports that controversy surrounds the expulsion of Oparaeke Akwaugo, a graduate of Sociology and Anthropology by the senate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), two years after she was caught engaging in examination malpractice.

Our Correspondent who obtained a copy of the expulsion letter opened an investigation into the matter and made some discoveries.

It was learnt that the incident occurred back in the first semester of 2017/2018 session when Akwaugo was in her second year.

Having admitted to have entered the hall to write the examination, GSP 105 for a paltry sum before the panel set up to investigate the matter, Akwaugo did not hear the final decision of the panel till Friday, July 16 2021.

By then she had completed her 4-year study in the institution and had gone on to celebrate with other students in the usual manner of appearing on white and having others sign on them.

Akwaugo told the panel that she agreed to engage in the malpractice because she needed financial support in school and pleaded for justice to be tampered with mercy.

She told our correspondent that she reached out to Akubue Ubasinachi, a 2019 graduate of the same department for financial assistance but Ubasinachi offered to help her with the money on the condition that she impersonates one of his multiple clients from the department of Political Science.

The candidate she impersonated had graduated from the university and reportedly serving before this hammer fell on Akwaugo, VANTAGE NEWS reports.

VANTAGE NEWS learnt that Ubasinachi who was notorious for impersonation during his schooling days, failed to appear before the panel or offer any form of assistance to the sinking Akwaugo who couldn’t control her tears while talking to our correspondent.

Aside not showing up before the panel or security unit where Akwaugo was taken after she was caught and abandoning her to her fate, Ubasinachi went on to demand for money from Akwaugo to have the case thrown out.

Ubasinachi boasted that he has the connection within the senate to ensure that the case was thrown out.

On hearing about her expulsion, Ubasinachi didn’t sympathize with her but rather boasted that he could still have the case thrown out if she could pay the money previously demanded to have the case thrown out.

Nothing was heard from the panel till the expulsion letter was sent to Akwaugo through her department.

Some of her classmates and lecturers that spoke to VANTAGE NEWS on the condition of anonymity expressed shock over the incidence as Akwaugo was said to be a bright student who never cheated in any exam they were part of.

It remains to be seen why it took the panel two years to deliver verdict on the matter, allowing the student to continue paying fees and other sundry dues during the whole time.

VANTAGE NEWS wonders why Ubasinachi was never interrogated despite glaring evidence of his involvement in the matter.

Unn Reschedules Post-utme Screening Exercise For 2021/2022 Session

Congratulations to a strong woman who refused to succumb to challenges; a fighter who refused to be stopped against all odds.

Cheers to the one who never gave up on her dream, who dared to be different. Behold the jinx has been broken and a first graduate of the family stands tall today in glowing excellence.

Congratulations to a fine girl who refused to back out of the stormy 8 years journey. Cheers to a determined and hardworking girl who stood firm and conquered the battle. Yes; a FIGHTER!

I fought discouragement, fears and put every form of negativity behind. I refused to be held back by circumstances around me.

At 18, all mum wanted for me was marriage. We argued a number of times and I was labelled a rebellious child because I wanted to get a degree before marriage. Mum would wake me up every 2 a.m. to remind me of how poor they are and how they can’t afford me a university education, and the option left for me was marriage. I stood my ground, bought a Diploma form in 2011 without their knowledge.

Alas! The forewarned unpleasant reality of not having the wherewithal for my university education dawned on me in 2011 when UNN offered me admission to read Linguistics. All my parents could raise for me was 12K. One can imagine 12k for a whole semester. Thank God for my elder sister who came to my rescue. And reacting to my elder sister’s assistance, my elder brother said to my face and I quote “I still don’t understand why our elder sister is wasting money to send you to school. Money they could use to support our younger brother’s dream of travelling abroad. Reason being that most graduates hardly get good jobs. Every other person was against my decision to get educated except my elder sister.

Notwithstanding the hitches and struggles, I was awarded a diploma in 2013 with Distinction. Sadly, my parents didn’t appreciate my effort because they aren’t literate enough to understand what it means and takes to graduate with distinction. I kept my cool hoping to be celebrated by my second family in Aba because they are graduates. So I broke the news with excitement expecting congratulatory gestures from them, but all they could do was to undermine the feat with comments such as “You made it because of the leniency of UNN Aba campus lecturers. Do you think you can make first class in UNN Nsukka campus?” I felt very bad.

Not satisfied with a diploma cert, I decided to work in order to save money for degree. The highest paying job I could get with my certificate then was 12K monthly. My little earning and fresh memory of the challenges I faced doing diploma almost made me give up on pursuing a degree. With mixed feeling, I decided to try marriage but the relationship failed in 2015 because of genotype. I was so hurt and heartbroken that I decided not to get into another relationship. In fact, I cancelled marriage from mind. Same year, I got a job that paid better and I was able to save a little. But I was still troubled. Degree I no get, marriage I no get and I was 24.

Fast forward to December, 31st 2015, I left the family prayer meeting to go pray in seclusion. I told God: “I am done making decisions for myself. I won’t even plan for 2016 because all my plans in the previous years failed. I leave myself in your hands. Any direction your wind blows me to, I will follow. I am done struggling for a better life.” I wailed, groaned. I let out the entire burden in my heart for a fresh year. I decided I was not going to interfere in my own life affair because things obviously weren’t going as I planned.

Into the quarter of the year, I started having a strong urge to go back to school. To make matter worse, people began sending me job openings for graduates and/or asking me if I was done with my Degree, and those who knew I didn’t have a degree kept pushing me to go back to school.

While in the kitchen one evening with my elder sister, these words fell out of my mouth: “Aunty, I am going back to school.” Then a huge silence crawled into the kitchen. Everything in the kitchen paused for about a minute except for the sound produced by the boiling pot of soup. My sister smiled at me and said: “Sarah I don’t want to start what I cannot finish.” That was expected because “I am going back to school, literally means “Get ready to spend money. She was my only pillar of material support in everything.” I asked her to promise me that she will take care of my school fee while I take care of every other thing. She asked me how. I told her about the plan to WORK and STUDY. She was very skeptical about it and expressed concern about my overall wellbeing at school. I finally applied and was successfully offered admission to study Foreign Language [French] at UNN.

Meanwhile, the school fee didn’t come handy and I urgently needed money to beat registration deadline. It got to a point that I had to use the money my sister’s husband gave me to give a business partner to pay my school fee. This caused a huge problem between I, my sister and her husband. I was never trusted with money again.
School fee settled, registration done, however, there was no money for accommodation. I chatted Chizoba up begging him to allow me stay in their family house while I do house chores for them in exchange. Chizoba declined because I was just an online friend he had neither met nor known much about. Instead, he offered to help me get a female student who could squat me. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get anyone and I was left with only the option of staying with Jonathan, his friend. I agreed to stay with him. Jonathan would leave the room for me to sleep in his neighbor’s room every night.

One month into staying with Jonathan, his landlord asked me to pay him 20k to continue staying with him or leave. When the pressure from the landlord became unbearable for me, I left Jonathan’s place for Onyinye’s place. (still another connection from Chizoba). Onyinye was neither a student nor a graduate. She was an apprentice who was also struggling to survive. I had no food left. Chizoba would sneak food out of their house to bring for me. I stayed from morning to night without food. My food for a day sometimes was biscuits of N50 unless Chizoba brings food for me. Onyinye was always giving me this pity look and I became uncomfortable with it. So I left Onyinye to go stay with Chimsimdi, a new friend who accommodated me until I was able to pay my own part the rent.

Life in school was so tough that several times I thought of dropping out. However, I kept telling myself that dropping out is an act of cowardice. Most times, I shed tears when I open my book to study. I suffered severe ulcer because food was always scarce at my end. This took a toll on my concentration,

On the other hand, the pressure to get married kept coming from my mum. Most of the times, I wished I could avoid travelling home after school because each time I travelled, mum will remind me of my mates who are married. Thank God I didn’t succumb to the pressure.

After all the struggles, I graduated with a First Class Honors degree as the best in the Dept of Foreign Languages and second best in the Faculty of Arts, UNN with a CGPA of 4.76 at 28.

To all those that supported me in one way or the other, I say THANK YOU. May this story be an encouragement to those that find themselves in similar situations. Keep up the fight! There’s always light at the end of the tunnel.

I Dared To Be Different, UNN First Class Graduate Shares Her Experiences

The medical students of the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka in their clinical classes, today embarked on a very peaceful protest inside their Enugu Campus.

It was due to some issues they have endured and managed for a very long time.

In their hostel located inside the old University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, the clinical medical students claim to not have had light in the past 2months, they do not have access to the WiFi network that they pay for every year, they claim also not have any source of water in their hostel whereas their fellow students in other departments have always been provided with all of these, which they all pay equally for.
