Erdogan Warns Turkey Could Militarily Strike Israel Over Alleged Atrocities
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Israel of committing atrocities against Palestinians and Lebanese civilians. Speaking at the International Asia-Political Parties Conference in Istanbul, he called Israeli actions “barbaric” and alleged genocide. He cited a new Knesset law approving death sentences for terrorists and said it targets Palestinians only. Despite Israel and the US rejecting claims that Lebanon was part of the current ceasefire, Erdogan warned that 1.2 million Lebanese have been forced from their homes. He compared a potential Turkish military response to past interventions in Karabakh and Libya. “There is nothing to prevent us from acting. We just need to be strong,” he declared. In response, Israeli Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu condemned Erdogan’s remarks as hypocritical. He pointed to Turkey’s actions in Cyprus, its treatment of Kurds, and the Armenian Genocide. He labelled Erdogan a “megalomaniacal dictator” and proposed severing diplomatic ties with Ankara. On the forum, users mocked Erdogan’s threat. One comment noted that Israel’s air force has never lost a plane to Iran and dared Turkey to challenge its regional military strength.
