NVRI Denies ₦1.56bn Contract Allegation, Says It Has No Governing Council
The National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) in Vom, Plateau State, has denied allegations that its Executive Director, Dr. Yakubu Dashe Gunya, approved contracts worth ₦1.56 billion without Governing Council approval. The institute described the claim in a report published on October 30, 2026, as false and misleading. In its rejoinder, NVRI said it is a research institute, not a federal college, and has had no Governing Council since the previous council was dissolved. It said contract approvals are handled through the Parastatals Tenders Board and Ministerial Tenders Board. The institute also said Gunya had been in office for three months and that no contracts of that value were awarded under his leadership. It said any contracts being referenced may belong to previous administrations and called on the publisher to retract the report.
