Zidane Names Mbappe as France Captain in First Squad
Zinedine Zidane has confirmed Kylian Mbappe as France captain after naming his first squad as head coach of Les Bleus. Mbappe led France at the World Cup, where he finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 10 goals. Zidane succeeds Didier Deschamps, whose 14-year spell included France’s 2018 World Cup triumph. France begin their UEFA Nations League campaign away to Turkey next Friday before facing Belgium in Brussels. Zidane has also handed first call-ups to Jeremy Jacquet, Esteban Lepaul, Lucas Da Cunha, Andy Diouf and goalkeeper Guillaume Restes. Aurelien Tchouameni and Marcus Thuram were left out, while Arsenal defender William Saliba is unavailable through injury.
