Peace: A Need, Not a Want – JW 058 Reflection
Peace is not a luxury but a necessity in the Christian life. The fruit of the Spirit includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Yet our selfish desires often drive us toward wants instead of needs. When we face difficult choices, ego and fear hold us back from genuine relationships. We value respect over humility, forgetting that peace and neighborly love should guide our actions. Jesus modelled true humility by leaving heaven to live among us and being born to lowly parents (Luke 2:49-51). He humbled himself again at the Jordan River by asking John the Baptist for baptism (Matthew 3:14). His message was clear: we need the government of God above all else (Matthew 4:17). Too often, we chase temporary solutions and make peace an option rather than an essential. Let us reconsider what we truly need and choose peace first.
