Bayelsa Doubles Prize Money for National Scrabble Championship
Bayelsa State has doubled the prize purse for the next edition of its annual national scrabble championship, the Nigeria Scrabble Federation has said. The tournament has run for six consecutive years and attracts leading Nigerian players as well as international participants. The federation praised the state’s support for grassroots and elite scrabble. Secondary-school competitions have helped young players discover the game, while selected elite players have received support to attend competitions outside the state. Bayelsa also supported Team Nigeria’s participation at the recent World Youth Scrabble Championship in Kenya alongside Kwara State. The federation said sustained government investment can strengthen Nigeria’s pipeline of young players and improve the country’s standing in global scrabble.
