House Minority Caucus Rejects ‘Lapdog’ Label, Demands Apology from Spokesperson
The House Minority Caucus has reaffirmed its duty to hold the Executive to account, rejecting attempts to portray parliament as a ‘lapdog.’ It accused House Spokesperson Akin Rotimi of misrepresenting the entire chamber by using the phrase “House Notes” without proper mandate. The caucus cited procedural breaches and called Rotimi’s statement misleading. It argued that no sitting or resolution authorised him to speak for the full House or to override the Minority’s position. The Minority Caucus has given the Spokesperson 72 hours to apologise or face a petition to the Ethics and Privileges Committee. It also plans to raise urgent concerns about sub-30% budget implementation in defence and security agencies when plenary resumes.
