When God Permits the Tempter: Job’s Trial and Satan’s Defeat in Christ

In the Old Testament account of Job, Satan appears before God and asks permission to test Job’s faith. God grants him limited authority to bring calamity, showing that every trial serves divine purposes. The New Testament reveals a shift. Jesus casts out demons and rebukes Satan, declaring his power broken and condemned. This demonstrates Christ’s authority over evil forces. Reflecting on these passages, we see a change in perspective. In Job, Satan acts under God’s sovereign control. In the Gospels, he stands as the defeated enemy.
