ADC Petitions Justice Lifu After Appeal Court Voids Deregistration Ruling
The African Democratic Congress says it has petitioned the National Judicial Council against Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, following a ruling that deregistered the party and others. ADC lawyer Alex Adum spoke after the Court of Appeal overturned the judgment affecting the ADC, Accord Party and three other political parties. The appellate court held that the plaintiffs lacked the legal standing to bring the case. Adum described the earlier ruling as judicial overreach and urged the NJC to begin disciplinary action against judges who issue decisions that disregard established legal principles. He said the appeal court’s decision strengthened constitutionalism, the rule of law and multiparty democracy in Nigeria.
