Former Senator Urges Tinubu to Restore Ilaje Communities to Coastal Highway Route

A former Ondo South senator has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to review the alleged diversion of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway away from Ilaje communities in Ondo State. He said communities including Ugbonla, Ilowo, Ilepete, Awoye and Igho were part of the original coastal route but have been bypassed as the project moves inland towards Edo State. He argued that Ilaje, which has a long coastline and significant oil production, should not be excluded. According to him, routing the highway through Ilaje could boost trade, create jobs for residents and increase Ondo State’s internally generated revenue. He urged the Federal Government to realign the project to include the affected coastal communities.
