Court Places Maryam Abacha-Linked Victoria Island Property Under Interim Receivership
A Federal High Court in Lagos has placed a Victoria Island property linked to Maryam Abacha under interim receivership in a dispute with property developer Levitikal Realties & Construction Limited. The order covers the property at 68 Molade Okoya Thomas Street, Victoria Island. The court appointed its Deputy Chief Registrar or an official receiver to take custody and control pending the hearing of the substantive application. Levitikal and its representatives were restrained from selling, leasing, mortgaging or otherwise dealing with the property. Mrs Abacha alleges that the developer breached a 2021 joint-venture agreement to redevelop the land into 18 flats. She also alleges that the company used the property as collateral and continued marketing it after the agreement and power of attorney were terminated. The company’s position is not stated, and the court has not made a final decision on ownership or the allegations. The case was adjourned until November 9.
