Willian Says Leaving Chelsea for Arsenal Was a “Big Mistake”
Former Chelsea and Arsenal winger Willian says he regretted joining Arsenal shortly after his 2020 free transfer. Speaking on a football podcast, the Brazilian said Mikel Arteta and then-technical director Edu had promised to make him a central figure in the team. He said those expectations changed after he arrived, leaving him frustrated. Willian wanted a three-year deal to remain at Chelsea, but chose Arsenal partly to keep his family in London. He said that within three months, he had told his agent that leaving Chelsea had been a mistake. The former Brazil international later revived his Premier League career at Fulham after his difficult spell at Arsenal.
