Lagos Warns Residents: Borehole Drilling Without Approval Is Illegal
The Lagos State Government has warned residents and borehole operators against drilling boreholes or extracting groundwater without approval from the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission. The commission said unauthorised boreholes can contaminate groundwater, create public-health risks, contribute to land subsidence and threaten Lagos’ long-term water supply. It urged individuals and businesses to obtain the required permits before drilling. Facilities found to be in breach may be sealed, while offenders could face prosecution.
