A Year After My Sister’s Death: Exposing Her Husband’s Abuse and My Niece’s Rape
Today marks one year since I lost my beautiful sister, Uchechi Ugorji. She married Onyeka Ugorji without courtship. He beat and starved her even during pregnancy. She returned to her parents’ home each time, but went back because of her church and her kids. Onyeka raped my 13-year-old niece on at least three occasions. He threatened to kill her and our family if she spoke. When she became pregnant, he took her to a hotel and gave her pills to force an abortion. She then underwent an emergency D&C. He ran when the police arrived. He neglected my sister when she fell ill. No one else would stand up for us. I will not rest until justice is served.
