Alexia Putellas Wins Third Women’s Ballon d’Or After Barcelona’s Four-Trophy Season
Barcelona captain Alexia Putellas has won the 2026 Women’s Ballon d’Or, claiming the award for a joint-record third time after an outstanding season with the Spanish champions. Barcelona won the Liga F, Copa de la Reina, Spanish Super Cup and UEFA Women’s Champions League during the 2025–26 campaign. Putellas played a major role in that run and was named player of the tournament in the Champions League. The midfielder now matches former Barcelona team-mate Aitana Bonmatí’s record of three Women’s Ballon d’Or awards. Putellas praised her fellow nominees and dedicated the recognition to her team-mates, crediting their resilience through injuries and difficult moments. She also strengthened her place in Barcelona history by becoming the club’s joint-second-highest goalscorer after scoring twice in the Champions League semi-final in May.
