Why Are Graves Now Being Dug So Shallow?

While watching Ogogo’s burial yesterday, I noticed that the grave looked extremely shallow. It seems this has become common at recent burials. I noticed something similar at the burial of the masseuse who died in the home of a minister accused of impersonation. In both cases, it appeared that breaking the ceramic covering and clearing a little sand would expose the coffin. Why are graves no longer dug to the traditional six-foot depth? When did this practice become common? I worry that a shallow grave could be easily disturbed by animals or other factors.
