Why We Must Stop Treating Love Like a Money Test
I was startled by a video in which a woman advised her daughter to start billing any man who shows interest. According to her, a genuine man will stay while an unserious one will leave. But what exactly are we teaching young people about love and relationships? The internet is increasingly turning relationships into a marketplace of money, gifts, attention, sex and manipulation. “Bill him,” “make her jealous,” “never text first” and “make him chase” are often presented as standards or proof of love. There is nothing wrong with wanting a financially responsible and ambitious partner, but spending power should not be the main measure of character. I believe we should teach young people to make their own money, develop themselves, set healthy boundaries and choose partners carefully. The best way to judge someone is to observe their patterns: how they treat strangers, handle anger and money, keep promises, respond to failure, and behave when nobody is watching. Money, attraction and compatibility matter, but character matters more. We should stop turning relationships into psychological warfare and learn to recognise genuine value in people.
