NBA: EFCC Needs Court Order to Freeze Osun Government Accounts

The Nigerian Bar Association has said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission cannot unilaterally freeze Osun State Government accounts without first obtaining a court order. The EFCC directed First Bank to place a post-no-debit restriction on the state’s statutory allocation account while investigating the alleged handling of ₦11 billion in ecological and intervention funds. The agency said it observed large transfers from the account to corporate entities from August 2. Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke described the action as an attempt to undermine the state government. NBA President Afam Osigwe said a blanket restriction could paralyse government activities and urged the bank not to comply without a valid court order.
