Ajaero: ₦1m Minimum Wage Would Collapse Nigeria’s Economy

Nigeria Labour Congress President Joe Ajaero says a ₦1 million minimum wage would collapse the economy if deeper economic problems are not addressed first. Speaking in a television interview, Ajaero said efforts to improve workers’ welfare should focus on lowering living costs and strengthening the naira’s purchasing power. He argued that wage increases alone cannot solve the hardship caused by inflation, currency weakness and rising prices. His comments come amid ongoing discussions between organised labour and the Federal Government on wages and measures to ease the impact of higher fuel and living costs on public workers.
