Newlywed NAF Officer Dies in Crash 20 Years After Wife Lost Father in Similar Tragedy
Flight Lieutenant Damilola Adekunle lost her father, Wing Commander E.O. Adekunle, in a Nigerian Air Force Dornier 228 crash in Vandeikya, Benue State, in September 2006. Thirteen military officers, including 10 army generals, died in the accident. Twenty years later, Ms Adekunle has lost her husband, Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje, in the crash of NAF 931 in Igbokoda, Ondo State. The couple married in Abuja on 19 September 2026 and had been together for only 16 days. The ATR-42 aircraft was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos with 25 people on board. There were no survivors, and Squadron Leader Man-Ugwueje was one of the co-pilots. The Nigerian Air Force has expressed condolences to the bereaved families and ordered an investigation into the crash.
