Yoruba Elders Urge Support for Igbo Presidency in 2027, Warn Against ‘Sabotage’

A coalition of Yoruba elders says Nigeria should support an Igbo presidency in 2027 in the interest of equity, inclusion and national unity. After a meeting in Ibadan, the group urged Yoruba political leaders not to place regional interests above what it called national healing. It also warned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that a presidential bid which further divides the opposition and sidelines the Southeast could deepen political tensions. The elders called on traditional rulers, religious leaders and young people in the Southwest to support power rotation and reject alliances that exclude the Southeast ahead of the 2027 election.
