Why Leaving RCCG in 2018 Brought Me Greater Freedom

Leaving RCCG in 2018 was one of the best decisions I have made. With the current discussion around a woman who says she has left the church, I understand that backlash may follow. Still, everyone should be free to choose what works for them. For my family, leaving brought more financial freedom, greater autonomy and more time together. There are personal experiences I am not ready to share publicly, but I believe some things would have been different if we had remained. I remember the pressure around birthday fundraising, levies and other financial expectations that smaller parishes could barely meet. Some pastors were constantly demanding answers, and one even came to our home when nobody was there. We have moved on and we breathe easier now. Our relationship with God is personal, and no human being should have total control over another person's life.
