Anambra Pledges Support for Police Anti-Cultism Campaign

Anambra State officials, traditional rulers, youth leaders and police authorities have pledged support for the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), a nationwide initiative focused on preventing cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and related offences through community engagement. During a sensitisation tour of the state, POCACOV National Coordinator SP Orvenonne Ikwen said the initiative prioritises early intervention, mentorship and collaboration among parents, schools, religious bodies, traditional institutions and security agencies. She said the police cannot tackle crime alone and called on communities to help guide young people away from social vices. Traditional rulers highlighted community-led approaches, including Obosi's Movement Against Cultism in Obosi, where more than 500 young people reportedly renounced cultism at an earlier programme. The Anambra State Government said it would consider integrating POCACOV into its crime-prevention and value-reformation efforts.
