Victory Begins Within
“Though our outward self is perishing, yet the inward self is being renewed day by day.” — 2 Corinthians 4:16 In 1928, nursing student Isabel Smith was diagnosed with tuberculosis, an illness that was often fatal at the time. She spent much of the next 21 years in bed, but refused to let her condition define her life. She read widely, wrote letters, studied geography and atomic energy, and taught fellow patients to read and write. She also found love, married in 1948, and later wrote a book about finding gratitude and purpose despite hardship. Her story is a reminder that difficult circumstances do not have to stop personal growth. Inner strength can keep hope, learning and purpose alive.
