Ikpeba Backs Nwabali Ahead of Okoye for Super Eagles’ No. 1 Spot
Former Super Eagles forward Victor Ikpeba believes Stanley Nwabali remains Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper ahead of Maduka Okoye. Ikpeba spoke after the Super Eagles’ 2–1 win over Madagascar in their opening 2027 AFCON qualifier in Uyo. He said Nwabali’s composure, leadership and key saves give him an advantage in the competition for the No. 1 shirt. Nwabali conceded early after Madagascar beat Nigeria’s offside trap, but Ikpeba praised his decisive intervention later in the match. He said the save helped Nigeria protect their lead and avoid a possible late setback.
