What The Nigerian Army Did In Izombe Was An Act Of Terrorism
As most Nigerians know, the Nigerian Army is a group of unprofessional armed thugs in uniform. Like most branches of the Nigerian security forces, the Nigerian Army has little or no respect for the rule of law and the rules of engagement. The result has been recurring incidents of the Nigerian Army visiting death and destruction on communities they are paid to protect. The latest incident of terrorism by the Nigerian Army is Izombe community in Imo State. The report is that a misunderstanding between a Soldier and an Izombe youth led to the Soldier killing the young man named as Nonso Iherue. In retaliation, youths in Izombe apprehended the Soldier and clubbed him to death. When a detachment of Soldiers arrived at the scene to see their comerade dead, one of the officer shouted the order "anybody you see, kill him" The Soldiers the went around Izombe community burning houses and killing people. Over 100 houses have been destroyed and an unspecified number of people killed. Governor Hope Uzodimma, who himself was the one that invited Soldiers into his State, went to Izombe to shed crocodile tears at the destruction Soldiers visited on the community Izombe reflects the military terrorism that has occurred in other places such as Obigbo, Oraifite, Ohawfia, Zakibiam and Odi. The Nigerian Army moves into a place in peace time, and visits the community with death and destruction because they know they will get away with it. Say No To Military Terrorism!
