Ajaero Says NLC Can Negotiate Labour Matters Without TUC

Nigeria Labour Congress President Joe Ajaero says the NLC can negotiate labour matters independently, while the Trade Union Congress can only participate alongside it. Ajaero was responding to TUC President Festus Osifo, who said both labour centres should be involved in negotiations. The disagreement comes amid talks over the Federal Government’s approved ₦70,000 transport allowance for workers for six months. Speaking on a television programme on Monday, Ajaero cited the International Labour Organisation’s principle on workers’ representation. He said the TUC must submit its proposals through the NLC when dealing with the ILO.
