Are Doctors’ Salary Demands Fair When Other Public Needs Compete for Funding?

I believe doctors deserve respect because they save lives, but government salaries must come from the same public funds used for other urgent needs. Other professionals, including engineers and researchers, also make major contributions to Nigeria but often earn far less or struggle to find work. Investing more in technology, engineering and research could strengthen the country’s future. In my view, government employment should not be treated as a route to wealth. Doctors who want higher earnings may need to consider private practice, while public-sector pay demands should reflect Nigeria’s wider financial realities.
