Tinubu’s UK Visit Yields Major MoUs on Migration, Border Security and Business Visas
Nigeria and the United Kingdom have signed three key Memoranda of Understanding covering migration partnership, organised immigration crime, border security and expanded business visas for UK firms in Nigeria. Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said the deals reflect Nigeria’s push for a transparent, rules-based migration system that is safe, orderly and mutually beneficial. He added they will tackle abuse of legal pathways and strengthen border control. The agreements are also expected to boost trade and ease business mobility in support of President Bola Tinubu’s drive toward a trillion-dollar economy. They were signed with UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood and Trade Envoy Florence Eshalomi. This moment marks a deeper Nigeria–UK cooperation on migration governance, security and economic development. It comes alongside a £746 million financing deal to modernise the Lagos Port Complex in Apapa and Tin Can Island Port.
