Why We Must Question the Biases We Inherit
We inherit beliefs, identities and loyalties long before we are old enough to examine them. Family, tribe, religion and nationality can shape how we see ourselves and how we judge others. The accident of birth does not make one group superior to another. Yet people often excuse the wrongdoing of those they identify with while condemning the same behaviour in outsiders. These divisions can lead to exclusion, exploitation and violence. Religion, political power and military strength should not be treated as proof of moral superiority. Victory may show strength, but it does not settle questions of truth or justice. We can choose to question inherited loyalties and refuse to let them become boundaries around our humanity.
